Fisheries Protection

Seagull Offshore collaborates with governments, agencies, NGOs, and industry bodies to combat
illegal fishing on a global scale.
The Dangers of Illegal Fishing

Illegal fishing poses significant risks, including the depletion of fish stocks and harm to sustainable ecosystems. Research suggests that illegal fishing activities contribute to approximately up to 19% of global fisheries production losses annually, amounting to as much as $20 billion. Coastal fishing communities reliant on fisheries for sustenance are particularly vulnerable. In regions like the Falkland Islands, where fishing represents a substantial portion of government revenue, illegal fishing severely impacts the local economy.

Furthermore, IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing practices often involve methods that deplete fish populations, harm protected species, damage seabeds, and disrupt ecosystems. Large-scale factory fishing vessels engaged in illegal activities frequently engage in unauthorized refueling at sea, posing environmental risks such as fuel spillages, endangering lives, and evading local market taxes. Additionally, illegal fishing is linked to other criminal activities such as human trafficking and human rights abuses, with an estimated 100,000 individuals trapped in maritime slavery.

Introducing an Innovative Solution

Addressing these challenges requires a multifaceted approach and the development of advanced solutions. Seagull Offshore has engineered a comprehensive solution consisting of three main components:

Vessel Capabilities: A high-performance vessel equipped for long-range patrols,

inspections, and interdictions is essential.

Evidence Collection: The ability to capture evidence of IUU activities is critical

for enforcement and prosecution efforts.

Intelligence Gathering: A sophisticated intelligence capability is necessary

to assess risk environments and devise effective solutions.

Seagull Offshore's fleet includes the cutting-edge patrol vessels, such as STAN 5009 Lilibet,

designed to operate at 28 knots even in rough seas, meeting the exact specifications required

for effective enforcement operations.

Versatile Operations

Seagull Offshore not only provides state-of-the-art vessels but also manages operations, crews the vessels, and offers comprehensive vessel monitoring, surveillance, and analytics services. The Lilibet is already operational, conducting intercepts, performing daily inspections, and gathering crucial intelligence.

Furthermore, the Lilibet serves a dual purpose as a Search and Rescue vessel, showcasing its versatility and effectiveness in challenging maritime conditions.

Seagull Offshore remains committed to combating illegal fishing and safeguarding marine ecosystems through innovative solutions and dedicated operations.
